Animage Magazine - September 1999
According to Ryuu Angel, the text on the magazine spread below reads as follows: "Beyond time and space, a girl and a boy meet. In this different world, the people live their lives passionately. They find the truth about themselves in war. This month we add an new article written by Nobuteru Yuuki, who took part in the production of the movie, and some comments from the director Kazuki Akane. Here we present Escaflowne's charm. ... We can't separate the word omoi (which in Japanese means both feeling and thought, more or less) from Escaflowne when we're talking about it. It would be considered the main idea or theme of this film. "I'd like every person who watches this movie to understand what omoi means," says director Kazuki Akane. Three years after the TV series, the creators wanted to make a film that would destroy the image of the Escaflowne TV series. Hitomi and Van would appear as the main characters, of course, but from a different point of view, and with different personalities. In the film, Hitomi is a girl with an negative side. They wanted to tell a story in which she doesn't rely on Van exclusively, but also on Gaia's people, in order to discover her positive side. The basis of the story is the same as the TV series, but at the same time we are also seeing a new Escaflowne story. Van and Hitomi forget that omoi gives power to everything, and the two must rediscover it together. The story begins with the meeting of the girl and the boy. So, let's see where this omoi goes!"
