Background Music
(BGM) Changes
If you saw the Escaflowne
movie in Japanese theaters or on pay-per-view when it first came out in
summer of 2000, you may have missed something! There are actually two
different versions of the film. The first version lacks many of the music
selections heard in the second version. Please note that the only
difference between the two versions of the movie is the music. No scenes
were added or deleted, and no dialogue was changed.
The list below details
the musical changes and additions made in the second, final version of
A Girl in Gaia. It is this second version that is available on
the official Japanese and North American DVDs. However, some bootlegs
use the original audio track.
- Music changed during
the scene in which the Mole Man creates a setting for Hitomi's pendant.
The BGM in both versions sounds like a music box, but the tune in the
final draft is different. The MP3 on the Extra
BGM page is of the final version.
- Music added during
the psychic battle between Dilandau and Van. The music here greatly
improves this scene. It is much more exciting with the new BGM in place.
- Bird Song (track
nine on the soundtrack) was unused in the first version of the film
but was added to the final release. It plays during the scene in the
chasm while Jajuka and Hitomi have their little chat about life and
death.
- Music added during
Dilandau's initial attack on Torushina in the Alseides.
- Music added when
Hitomi's pendant activates and Escaflowne appears in Torushina.
- Flute music added
when Escaflowne reverts to its white color and transforms into flying
dragon mode.
- Who Will Save (track
twenty-two on the soundtrack) is played in full in the final version.
The first part of the track is featured during Jajuka's attack on Folken.
In the original version of the film, the BGM did not start until Folken
collapsed after the fight.
